Producer Information
Boekenhoutskloof is located in the Bohoek, the southernmost corner of the Franschhoek Valley and is one of the oldest properties in the appellation with a history dating back to 1776. With the dawn of democracy, 1994 also saw the start of the modern era of Boekenhoutskloof Winery and the past thirty years has seen the business amass an impressive portfolio of pedigreed brands and properties. From the founding 1996 vintage of the Boekenhoutskloof (seven chairs) brand with its collection of four sought-after wines, each with their unique expressions of various terroirs, to Porcupine Ridge (1997) and its assortment of delicious, everyday wines, to the globally recognised The Chocolate Block and it’s sibling, blended-wines brand, The Wolftrap. These were introduced with the 2002 vintage and have become familiar favourites across the globe. Beyond the home-base region of Franschhoek, expansion into Stellenbosch through Helderberg Winery, the Swartland appellation with the acquisition of Porseleinberg, Goldmine and Partnership farms, these have further enhanced the quality of wine being bottled. Porseleinberg, in its own right, has become a sensation amongst enthusiasts. A venture into the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in search of premium terroir for Cap Maritime, as well as a broader, Cape South Coast appellation approach for the Coastal range, now sees a multifaceted wine business led by Marc Kent, Boekenhoutskloof ’s Managing Partner & Technical Director. He is the driving force behind each of the brands and properties within the Boekenhoutskloof Winery stable.
