Restless River Le Luc
2021
Region: Upper Hemel-En-Aarde
Wine of Origin: Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley
Winemaker: Craig Wessels
Producer Information
Restless River is a boutique wine estate in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, South Africa. It is owned by Craig and Anne Wessels. Craig’s real passion is farming. He is also the winemaker and Anne runs the business side of the operation. The farm is situated in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation, with vineyards at an altitude reaching 1200ft and as close as 5km from cold Atlantic Ocean. Restless River is synonymous with authentic, elegant wines and Craig is committed to absolute site expression using only the grapes that he farms. Each vineyard on Restless River is registered as a Single Vineyard and the wines are named after the vineyards. The focus is on 100% single varietal wine: Pinot noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet sauvignon. Craig’s approach is unconventional, fairly extreme but always very deliberate. He is motivated by pushing the boundaries in both the vineyard and the cellar, guided as he says, “mostly by sense rather than science” The Restless River label was officially launched in 2012.
