Region: Stellenbosch
Wine of Origin: Stellenbosch
Winemaker: Dirk van Zyl
Producer Information
In 2003, at the age of 78, May de Lencquesaing, then the owner of the iconic Chateau Pichon Comtesse de Lalande, a Grand Cru Classe from Pauillac, in Bordeaux, started a new adventure, on South African Soil, when purchased Glenelly Estate, part of the original Ida’s Valley farm in Stellenbosch, granted in 1682 by Simon van der Stel. With a nod to the French Huguenots settlers 300 years before, she planted vines to replace the existing citrus fruit trees, after cautious study of the terroir and build a thriving winery that best utilises the soils and microclimate of the valley and supports local economic development and community. Her vision is to establish Glenelly as a world class estate, producing award winning wines.
