Producer Information

Lutzville Vineyards, home of the Classic Lutzville, the Diamond and Francois Le Vaillant Collections. The secret behind the rich character, approachable style, juicy fruit and elegant structure of our wines lies in our unique location on the West Coast of South Africa. Fresh Atlantic morning breezes roll in and cool down the vineyards. The hot sunny days and crisp evenings result in large temperature differences between day and night. Matched with our ideal soils, these micro climates happily conspire to create the best growing conditions for our grapes – the perfect ingredients for our outstanding South African wines. Lutzville Vineyards is one of South Africa's largest wineries, crushing around 48 000 tons and bottling 400,000 cases for it's own labels. The 2,100 ha of vines are minded by two viticulturists, supplying fruit to a cellar with one of still relatively few female leaders.

Selected from two vineyard sites, the grapes are harvested for two different wine styles. The one block planted on the westerly part, on strong deep red Karoo structured soil, deliver fruit with strong citrus and chalky mineral flavours. The second vineyard delivers fruity flavours and texture. These different vineyard sites are exposed to moderate day/night temperatures due to the influence of the Atlantic Ocean. With this variance in temperature, the grapes reach phenolic ripeness at lower sugar levels.
